THE STORY: “Seven Days in June” is a compelling exploration of lost love, rediscovery, and personal growth. The story revolves around Eva and Shane, who once shared a passionate, although brief, teenage romance. During that time, the two authors shared an intense, week-long romantic staycation. The story unfolds as they cautiously try to rekindle that relationship while unearthing the events of 15 years prior.

Eva is a celebrated author of vampire erotica and a single mother who carries the burden of her past. Her traumatic upbringing and relentless migraines shape her personal, professional, and social life. However, her evolution is nothing short of inspiring as she breaks away from her crowd-pleasing fantasy writing to pen down what truly matters to her.

Shane is a multi-award-winning novelist, and recovering alcoholic. He is deep and complex, yet sensitive and relatable. I enjoyed seeing Shane channel his addictive tendencies into a healthier lifestyle. This showcases his vulnerability and resilience.

“Seven Days in June” is a book I’ve had on my to-be-read list for a while, and I’m glad to have finally read it. It is a heavier read than the typical romance novel, so please heed the content warnings. Despite the story’s themes of mental health and substance abuse, it does maintain a fresh and engaging flow. I love the author’s exploration of the literary world through the lives of Eva and Shane. This provides an intriguing glimpse into the realities of being an author. Although the book does overuse many pop culture references and trending catch phrases, this doesn’t detract from the overall reading experience. All in all, I did thoroughly enjoy this book.
